[SOLVED] Colour wrong in Flash

Postby aussiejohn » Apr 18th, '12, 19:42

I am running the full latest updated Mageia-1 using Boot install from 2 days ago.
Both root and home partitions were clean installed so no hang over from previous installs.
I have 2 small problems.

1. All the colours in flash items in Firefox seem to be colour opposites i.e. red is now blue, blue is now red and so on. I have even swapped the non-free flash player for the Adobe sited player but the problem is unaltered.

2. Everything else seems to be working correctly other than a problem with the LUNA plasmoid which does not install and give an error message saying svg or whatever cannot be found.

My standby machine is running Mageia-1 also and has been simply fully updated over the past months and shows no signs of such a colour problem, however the Luna problem exists there also.
The Luna problem in Mageia is not consistent because some times in a Mageia reinstall the Luna installs AOK. Very strange indeed.

Any ideas anyone please.

Cheers. John.

The colour problems in flash seem to be hardware dependent and there does not seem to be a solution that works for everyone. The issue has been discussed in the devel mailing list:

I had the problem with the wrong colours in flashplayer which occured recently on my Mageia 1 desktop, and i encountered this same problem also on some friends' laptops that run different linux distributions. Seems to be due to latest release of flash from adobe. To workaround it, i have deactivated hardware acceleration:
1) While watching the video, right click on "Parameters..."
2) Choose the first tab called "Display"
3) Uncheck the "Enable hardware acceleration"
4) Reload the video
This has been working on the different computers i saw that were affected by the problem. Don't know if this is a general solution though.

Regarding the Luna plasmoid, i assume this is the Moon phase one? I have been running it for many months on Mageia 1 without any problems, so i cannot help much more except to say it works here.
Is it the applet coming from the "plasma-applet-luna" package, or did you download it separately through the kde "hot new stuff" downloader? I use successfully the one in the Mageia repository.

Apart from jkerr's hint, this was already discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2173
Please use the forum search function next time before you post, and please only one problem per thread.
For the problem with the plasmoid, please open up a separate thread, and mark this one as [SOLVED]

Great thanks to Jim (jkerr) and eonwir for your help in the great Linux tradition. A trait that some people could well learn.
The suggestions worked. I will be placing the LUNA problem in another Thread with a snapshot of the Error message.

Cheers. John.

"mark this one as [SOLVED]"
most forums in other linuxes are describing the problem isnt solved this way, as flash has been reported as unstable after the change. I have had one crash of the browser that warned that data had been corrupted for the user, and refused to load that user. A reboot of linux got passed that for me once, but I am making no changes until that risk is removed.

Other users have on other forums said that there is a new version of the plugin without the problem, I cannot install a working adobe version, and only the mageia version works for me, but with the bugs described. This suggests packaging the new driver in a mageia rpm as the only true course forward.

The best workable solutions are either to disable hardware acceleration (f.ex. via right-mouse context menu on a flash applet) or to just don't use Adobe flash player anymore. Like you can use HTML5 with Youtube, or maybe some other free flash plugin, like those which are listed in viewtopic.php?f=34&t=880

What new driver are you referring to?
