CITRIX [SOLVED]

Postby R_Head » Jan 3rd, '14, 19:48

Where I work I have the choice to work from home and I do take advantage sometimes depending of circumstances.
The company is running a Citrix Server that works extremely well.

Works well in WinXp but not so well in Mageia.

According to Citrix support they have support for Linux.

Downloaded their RPM and installed.

Here is what Mageia can do...

I can log in on the server and see all the icons that allows me to use their Enterprise Software (MS Office, SAP, Lync, Network Shares, etc..)
Here is what Mageia cannot do and is run the *.ICA files; just does nothing.

Apparently the Citrix RPM seems to be installed but if I click on the Icon looks like it tries to start but does nothing.

If I can make it work on Mageia that is another good reason for not using/booting up on WinXp.

Tried Virtual Box with WinXp and lags way too much; so that is out of question.

Where is the receiver installed? /opt/Citrix/ICAClient ?
You can simply download an .ica file and can call it manually via /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/wfica.sh somefile.ica

You probably should either associate .ica files with that script in your desktop environment. For KDE, systemsettings -> file associations -> ica -> wfica.sh should be the only thing associated.

I was thinking also on a file association problem.

Will try again when my shift is over and log in on Mageia.

If does works... that is another excuse on not to use MS :D

The location for Citrix is on the same spot as you said.

Still no dice, looks like it tries but just hangs.

I wonder if is a Browser BS... I am using Firefox and tried Konqueror showing itself as IE7 on Xp.

Have not tried Firefox on Windows, just IE.

In your browser, what is associated with .ica files?

Nothing, does not shows ICA files to associate with under Preferences>Applications

Searched all over the web for a solution with no luck.

Is not a "must to have" but is a "great to have".

Well, you need to get some .ica file to test it. You could also at least try to run the Receiver standalone, to see if it shows any error messages, maybe some libraries are missing.

What I found out is no ICA files to download. The browser does not offer the choice; just hangs.

Have you tried other browsers? Seems to be a problem with the web gateway, not with receiver at all.
And there are other threads here where people used Receiver sucessfully.

Can you at least run
Code: Select all
/usr/lib/ICAClient/wfcmgr
successfully?

I do not have that file but I do have...

configmgr.desktop
conncenter.desktop
selfservice.desktop
wfica.desktop

Have not tried yet but I think the site was made to work with IE.
Will reboot on WinXp and try with Firefox to see if it does the same.

Then supply another user agent, that's what I have to do at work too. This is what I'm using: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -switcher/

Well still no dice.

Does not allows me to download the ICA file, just hangs with the message that I posted before.

One thing was almost good.
Netflix told me to get Active X enabled, before it says that Linux is an unsupported platform.

maybe if you company offers it, you should use rdesktop.

rdesktop is a linux implementation of windows remote desktop.

if you can access you PC at work using that that may be an alternative.

thats the way, the company i work for does it, via a java implementation of a vpn client, which is accessed via a web browser.

once the vpn to your magia desktop is established , you then use rdesktop to connect to your work windows desktop, via the vpn.

works very well, and in some ways better than citrix.

The problem is they are 100% M$ shop.

Even when I use Firefox (with WinXp and now Win 7) with my Corporate Computer does not work right on the Intra Web Page.

Not sure what Netflix has to do with Citrix ... Please have a look at viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4158 for that, and post there for Netflix issues.

For your issues with the Citrix gateway best contact those responsible in your company for client support. Maybe they use published apps,
IIRC that's a windows-only thing, but not sure. Best ask them for more information.

I'm usually using Receiver to get a full desktop session, and that works just fine.

The Netflix part was a test not related to Citrix. Just testing the Agent Switcher to see what else can do.

Netflix depends on Silverlight if you use M$ but runs on Android and iOS/OSX but not in Linux; assholes !

I think you might have misread me

rdesktop is a reverse engineered windows remote desktop protocol client.

its a linux equivalent to mstsc

you run it on linux, it connects to a 100% ms windows desktop and displays it on linux

as i say i use it to connect to my 100% windows desktop at work, no need for citrix, you get a mirror of your work desktop.

Did you at least have a look at the thread linked to above? Which explains how to install/use Netflix under Mageia ...

I did and fiddle with it for a while. Still got the error 1001 (I think) even after installing the EU pack. Has to do with Arial and Verdana fonts which were installed in Wine. Was late and left it for next day since is not a must have but a nice to have.

Back to Citrix...

Used Firefox on WinXp and asked me to download the ICA file which I did.
Rebooted on Mageia 3 and tired to run the files, looked like some was trying to happen but nothing did.

I'm not a Citrix user for forgive me if I am off base here. But I did install the Citrix reciever for a friend of mine on their Debian based distro. They had issues too. As I recall, the issues that they had was that firefox put all the secure license key numbers in one folder and Citrix was looking for them in another folder. As a result Citrix did not see that it had the security keys so it couldn't do anything. So if I am vague in my answer. It was some time ago when I did it. I don't even remember off hand what the exact name of the item was, but I do remember that the issue stemmed from Firefox and Cistrix looking in different folders for the same item.
