I'm quite new to Linux. I've been playing around for some months with ubuntu and debian distro's. Most things worked pretty well, now I have installed Mageia and would like to keep it as my main OS. Installation went fine, except for some minor issues, I lost boot menu for other os but could recover it with grubcustomiser I found in the repo.
Printers work, internet works even Popcorn time experimental build works. Only one major issue, how to install belgian eid we need for tax administration. I have been using it in ubuntu and debian with a .deb package provided by tax government, I tried it on Korora with. rpm package for Fedora ( without any problem ) , but how should i proceed with Mageia, installing one of the rpm packages doesn't seem to work ? Any suggestions ? Thanks for all helpfull suggestions, and try to keep in mind i'm quite new so I might need a bit more explanation.

Is that the thingie that's also called este-ID? http://id.eesti.ee ?
I think we have browser plugins and such for that, and even a meta-package to pull in everything necessary.

Simply install task-esteid and it should pull in everything that you need ... I hope.

Summary : Application to read information from the Belgian e-ID card
Description :
This application allows the user to read out any information from a
Belgian electronic ID card, by using libbeid and libbeidlibopensc to
read the data from the card and parse it. Both identity information
and information about the stored cryptographic keys can be read in a
user-friendly manner, and can easily be printed out or stored for
later review.

The application verifies the signature of the identity information,
checks whether it was signed by a government-issued key, and
optionally checks the certificate against the government's Certificate
Revocation List (CRL) and/or by using the Online Certificate Status
Protocol (OCSP) against the government's servers.
