pipelight dependency issues

Postby mabari » May 27th, '15, 16:44

Thanks for response. I tried installing pipelight as per instructions but got the following error:

A requested package cannot be installed:
wine-staging64-1.7.42-1.mga4.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied libgphoto2_port.so.10()(64bit))

I then tried installing wine-staging but got the same error.

Any ideas about what I need to do?

Re: [SOLUTION] Netflix Player for Mageia!

Postby mabari » May 27th, '15, 21:19

Thanks. Tried that and was told I needed libusb >= 0.1.5. Couldn't find that for Mageia so tried installing a 64 bit libusb from sourceforge. Now I am being told I need libgphoto-common. Seems quite piecemeal, I wonder is there some way I can install pipelight with all the dependencies being automatically pulled in?

It would be helpful if you would at least tell how you tried to install the packages in question. Did you use rpm or urpmi, and what is the exact output, and what repos do you have configured currently?
Please show the output of
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active --list-url

Also, you should not blindly install any packages from some arbitrary website ...

If I need a package I first try to install through the MCC. If that doesn't work I try urpmi. Failing that I go to the website rpmfind.net and search for the rpm and if there is a Mageia option, I use their install option. It was this install that gave me the messages about libgphoto and libusb.

See attachment for urpmq output as it would not allow me to put the output directly into the reply - too many urls.

Hope this helps and thanks for all your help.

Ok, from the output you got 3 complete sets of repositories, all from the same mirror, which does not make sense but it will not hurt.
You also do try to install the pipelight packages that were built for Mageia 4 under Mageia 5/Cauldron, which will obviously not work.

There is no easy solution to this. You could try to force the installation, but that will probably not work out as you will run into a dependency hell.
You could rebuild the Mageia 4 pipelight packages on your box, but that would require a great amount of packaging knowledge and also how to adapt the packages which will most probably be necessary.

Best option IMHO is to wait for the pipelight developers to provide packages for Mageia 5 when it is released, which will be hopefully the case in the next few weeks (Mageia release).

You can also follow the progress of the pipelight packages in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11078
where others already tried and also discovered that the packages cannot be installed as-is on Mageia 5.
So far the upstream pipelight developers have also been really kind and responsive there for the packages they released for the Mageia stable versions.

Installation should be possible now for Mageia 5: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11078#c26

Still getting dependency errors as before:
Code: Select all
urpmi pipelight
A requested package cannot be installed:
wine-staging64-1.7.44-1.mga4.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied libgphoto2_port.so.10()(64bit))
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n) y
While some packages may have been installed, there were failures.

Code: Select all
urpmi wine-staging
A requested package cannot be installed:
wine-staging-common-1.7.44-1.mga4.i586 (due to unsatisfied libgphoto2_port.so.10)
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n) y
While some packages may have been installed, there were failures.

Either you didn't read the instructions or you have not changed your pipelight repos to point to the new Mageia 5 ones. Looks like this here:

Code: Select all
┌─[doktor5000@Mageia5]─[21:06:02]─[~]
└──╼ sudo urpmi pipelight --test
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:
(test only, installation will not be actually done)
  Package                        Version      Release       Arch
(medium "Wine Staging 32-bit")
  wine-staging-common            1.7.44       1.mga5        i586
(medium "Wine Staging 64-bit")
  pipelight                      0.2.8.1      7.mga5        x86_64
  wine-staging64                 1.7.44       1.mga5        x86_64
292MB of additional disk space will be used.
39MB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of the 3 packages? (Y/n)

installing wine-staging64-1.7.44-1.mga5.x86_64.rpm pipelight-0.2.8.1-7.mga5.x86_64.rpm wine-staging-common-1.7.44-1.mga5.i586.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms

OK, finally got pipelight installed correctly, added silverlight plugin to Firefox 31, then added Change User Agent. Set it all up correctly for Firefox. Guess what - Netflix still won't run! So I gave in and installed Chrome. Netflix ran immediately.

I guess I'll use Chrome for Netflix only and Firefox for all else. Not the best solution and I will occasionally work at getting Netflix to run on Firefox, but if anyone has any suggestions how to get this running on Firefox, I'm open.

Some info for those in the same boat as me. I have Firefox 31 and after much trial and error and frustration, I have discovered that the Switch User Agent extension does not work in this Firefox (maybe in others as well). What does work is the extension UAControl. This allows you to set the user agent for each site, so I went to Netflix site, opened up UAControl and chose the 'Custom' radio button. In the field provided, I put "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:31.0) Gecko/20131011 Firefox/31.0". It worked and Netflix now runs perfectly. One thing I found though, was that everytime I opened up Firefox and went to Netflix, I had to open up UAControl again and simply clik OK. This was a pain, admittedly small, but there is a default option they allow you to edit. So I put the above string in the default also, and it worked. Now I open Firefox, go to Netflix and presto! it works. Which is great so now I can dump Google Chrome, don't like Google and their privacy (no privacy) policies.
So if there are others who are experiencing frustration getting Netflix to work with Mageia (I'm on 5 by the way, but I imagine this should work with previous versions) then I hope this is a solution for you.

Yeah, urpmi pipelight works fine for me in Mageia 4. When I tried Cauldron, I had to build my own version of Wine. I later decided to upgrade my version of Wine and I couldn't get a build with sound built, so that's when I went back to Mageia 4.

As you can see from my post above, it can be easily installed in mga5 as the pipelight developers offer packages for mga5 since a few weeks.
