vlc/videolanclient dual windows

Ive noticed recently that when vlc opens as the media player
it often has two window panes, one showing the video and one blank.
and they are part of the same overall window, not separate like you get with 3d
videos.
blank one at the bottom, video playing in the top.

ive looked at several suggestions on google, like disabling visualizations etc.

if i clear all the vlc related .files etc the problem goes, but comes back quite quickly

if i double dig in the video for full screen, and then escape for back to normal while running
the dual pane goes, but its back again on starting a new one.

same under kde and lxqt

mga5 beta 3, with all updates.

Using vlc every day here, never seen something like that. Could you maybe post a screenshot from the 2 panes?
