[SOLVED] Small Wine window...

Postby ProximaCentauri » Apr 7th, '15, 21:47

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make work a game named "Orbiter", it's a simulator. But when I try to launch it, a very very small window of Wine appear, without the little cross to maximise etc..

I installed Wine32 and Wine64 and other packages, but it doesn't work... I can't maximise it, even if I change the resolution of Wine.

There's an example from french mageia forum : http://www.mageialinux-online.org/forum ... -s2-6e.php

Thanks :)

Let's say it depends. Usually you would want to use winecfg and emulate a virtual screen. But by default this is controlled how the application itself defines it's window size.
I prefer to have one virtual desktop the size of my screen resolution, so you can run windows games in fullscreen and can use Alt+Tab to switch back to your linux desktop at any time.
See http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-dba86ae ... af45e8119c for that.

You should also have a look at the wine AppDB entries for Orbiter, usually they provide fixes for known issues and also some hints what is working and what not:

Have you installed Visual C++ 2005 runtime under wine yet, using winetricks or an installer bundled with Orbiter maybe?

is the very small window, a vertical rectangle?

If so, you may need to remove wine_64 package.

Thanks for answering :)

Yes, it's that one, but I can't remove Wine64 without removing Wine32, the package installer of Mageia ask to remove wine32 if I want to delete Wine64 and vice versa...

EDIT : Not vice versa actually, I can remove wine32 and let wine64 installed, but I can't remove wine64 without removing wine32

bother.
you may have to remove wine completely and reinstall just the 32 version.
64 is only required if running 64 bit programmes, not if using a 64 system.
counter-intuitive- you have a 64 system and run a 32 on it.
sorry for the bad news

I'm using a 64bits version of Mageia, and I have a amd64 computer.

I removed all wine packages and when I want to install Wine32 only, Mageia install Wine64 because of dependencies...

currently I have Wine 1.6.1-2.mga4 (i586) installed
not sure why your installer is requesting a 64 package.

can you check to see if any 64 packages for wine remained after you removed wine?
only one 64 package- lib64kwineffects1 [ which isnt a Wine package ] installed, come up in my search.

If I remove all wine packages, even lib64kwineffects1, it ask me to install wine64 if I want to install wine32 only, and vice versa (again).

I don't know what the problem is, I'm new to Mageia (since february)

Wait, what !?

I'm on another problem in the same time with Wine, and I just installed "icodecs" with winetricks to make an astronomy image processing to work (because it was saying "Decompressor not found when I tried to make a conversion video) and it work perfectly.

Back to Orbiter, now I can run Orbiter without this tiny windows, the window is "normal" and everything work fine... Wtf ?

Thank you very much for your help, I know it's just a forum, but it's very nice to help each other :)

My bad Benmc, you were completely right.

I was focusing on "Wine32" and "Wine64", but I didn't see the Wine i386 package, and it was that one, so now I don't have Wine64 anymore :)

Eveything works fine, thank you guys, I really appreciate :)
