I have received notification of an update and when I try to install it I receive the following error message:
a fatal error occurred: couldn't open RPM DB 0 at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.18.1/Rpmdrake/open_db.pm line 74..
Any advice appreciated.

Have a look at:
