Touchpad Configuration Errors

I am running Mageia 4 on a Dell XPS13, and I am having trouble with some of the basic touchpad functionalities offered in the settings. The main issues I am having is with the "Disable touchpad while typing" and the two finger scrolling, both of which I have enabled, but neither of which are working. Is there some driver that I need to install or something? Thank you for your help!

Please show the output of
- Code: Select all
xinput list
synclient -l
For the first you might need to install the xinput package.

Looks like you were spot on:
- Code: Select all
[taylor@localhost ~]$ xinput list
bash: xinput: command not found
[taylor@localhost ~]$ sudo urpmi xinput
[sudo] password for taylor:

installing xinput-1.6.1-2.mga4.x86_64.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms

[taylor@localhost ~]$ synclient -l
Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?
[taylor@localhost ~]$
I am assuming that means that I have to install the "synaptic drivers?"

That's a good question, as it seems to be some kind of synaptics touchpad, I'd assume they would already be installed.
Can you also post the output of
- Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v
and attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Found some related threads:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=177653http://xps13-9333.appspot.com/#touchpadhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/462135/t ... -dont-helphttp://www.jx0.org/2013/12/dell-xps-13- ... 0850685578Seems that you might need to unload the i2c-hid kernel module to get gestures and other advanced touchpad stuff to work, maybe this also applies to the option you want to enable.
You can unload that module as root via
- Code: Select all
rmmod i2c-hid
Also it seems you might need a pretty recent kernel and related libraries (evdev) to get this to work.
Did you try with Mageia 5 beta3 in live mode to see whether it works there?

I tried to boot from a live usb of MAgeia 5 beta3, but it did not boot properly (there were errors before the system gui even popped up). It was quite messy so I did not catch what it said. I imagine this information will be useful to the dev team, so another question is how do I pipe the right information into a file or something useful to give to the dev team?
Also, do you have any more suggestions of what I can try to get the trackpad working?

Apart from the threads with related information I've linked to above? Nope.

Thanks for all your help doktor! None of the links have turned up a solution, but I will keep looking to see what I can find.

Do you use an external mouse aswell as the touchpad?

Sure, but not simultaneously (the mouse is not plugged in when I try to use the touchpad).
