[RESOLVED] dracut warning

Postby Silver22 » Nov 20th, '14, 22:05

I can't get into my mageia4 installation. all I get is a bunch of dracut warnings.

Found the following but my french isn't so good these days it seems.
http://www.mageialinux-online.org/wiki/dracut-warning-could-not-boot

So, I'm getting the following when trying to boot Mageia:
dracut warning:
cancelling resume operation. Device not found.
dracut warning: could not boot.
/dev/disk/by-vvid/297a9cba-cdc8-45fb-644f-f34681ez1cf1 does not exist.
dracut warning: /dev/resume does not exist
generating "/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt
dropping to debug shell
dracut:/#

Please be curteous when offering help. I'm really getting sick of the rudness that is typical of Linux forums.

Hello.

I recently had this on a win7/Mga dual boot - windows would boot, Magiea4 would not. this was after a mains power failure.
Not cleanly shut down.
If you still have your Install media, see if you can
1/ rescue the system,
2/ reinstall and upgrade to Mageia4,
3/ complete re-install.

If, like me, no valid linux file system is found by 1/, and 2+3 give " unable to install " your_IDE_driver", no valid device", it meant for me that the boot sector was corrupted.
I had to re-partition the drive and re-install the system.

regards

Well, the error of the OP means that the swap partition cannot be found by it's old UUID.
It should be possible to continue booting by simply editing the kernel command line in grub and removing the resume= option.

This has been reported previously, see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12305 and the errata entry for this:
