[SOLVED] Latest Firefox Upate (31.2.0) and Shockwave/Flash

Hello,

Since the latest Firefox update (to version 31.2.0), Shockwave/Flash is no longer working for one of the websites I use. I've seen this happen before with previous Firefox updates. An update of Shockwave/Flash has ended up fixing the problem. Just wanted to give a heads up. I'm running Mageia 3. Thank you.

Would be at least helpful to know which flash plugin you're using, and which website was no longer working.

The flash install is:

Version: 11.2.202.406
Release: 1.mga3.nonfree
Arch: x86_64

The website is my credit card website. I'd rather not give out the address. Basically the credit card company I use offers the ability for card holders to generate one time use credit card numbers for example for Internet purchases. A card holder logs on to their account, and then chooses the one time use credit card number generator link, and then a shockwave/flash app opens in a separate window. The shockwave/flash app then ask the card holder for a credit limit in dollars as well as a time limit, and once the card holder provides this information, the shockwave/flash app then generates a unique credit card number with the dollar and time limits as specified by the card holder. The card holder can this use this unique number for example for an Internet purchase, and then not have to worry about giving out his or her actual credit card number, and thus preventing the possibility of credit card fraud.

As I mentioned before, I've seen this exact same problem with Firefox and Shockwave/Flash occur a couple of other times in the past:

Firefox and Shockwave/Flash will be working fine with the website I use. Mageia then issues a Firefox update, and Shockwave/Flash will stop working with the website I use. Then a week or two later, Mageia will issue a Shockwave/Flash update, and then Firefox and Shockwave/Flash will be back to working fine with the website I use.

This doesn't happen everytime there is a Firefox update, but on a couple of occasions it has.

That's all I'm saying. Just wanted to give you all a heads up. Perhaps we have to wait for Shockwave/Flash to provide an update.

Thanks!

Hi,

If your website uses the latest flash technologies (Flash technologies used in version 12 onwards) then this could be the answer as to why it does not work. If the programmers are working on improving security, usability and ease of use on that site then probably it is catered towards to Microsoft Windows users.

https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Adobe stated that they will provide security patches but not new functionality. I guess this is the dead straight answer from them. The latest version of Chromium for Mageia also dropped support for flash but I think someone made a hack to make it work using some Google Chrome's pepper flash but I can't exactly point if someone has done it on Mageia.

If you can ask your company to transition to html5 instead of using flash then you should have not problems moving forward.

That is noted in the MAQeia for Chrome/Chromium, and in the sticky threads:

All,

Just wanted to let you all know that the problem has now been solved. Mageia issued a new Flash update a couple of days ago (to Flash Version 11.2.202.418), and now the website I use is working again.

Thanks for all the suggestions as well. I found that the Chrome option (full version from Google) works as well. But it's nice to have Flash working again so that I can use Firefox.
