Gnome, no desktop icons. [solved]

I had trouble with KDE, missing Icons every other boot, which I had to resize my resolution to get them back. Now I also have black screen at boot at least once a day,
which requires a reboot to clear that.
So some one suggested to install Gnome, which I did. I tried the classic one first and it didn't work
so I switch to the Gnome one and it does the same thing.

I do not have any Icon's again. I can go to my Desktop folder and they are there. I tried to drag them out to the desktop and
they won't go. I also can not attach Sykpe to the task bar either.
I am guessing there is a hidden way to make it work but I don't see it.
Help please.

Thanks duder

I Installed Mate instead and all my problems seemed to have gone away.
