[SOLVED] Boot time very slow, all of a sudden

My system:
AMD A8-3850 APU
8GB RAM
Plenty of hdd space

OS:
Magiea 4
Kernel 3.14.18-desktop-3.mga4
KDE version

System worked fine yesterday, bootup to desktop took easily 15 minutes tonight. Rebooted and selected safe mode. System booted normally. Used it for maybe 30 minutes, and got a msg. from msec. Rebooted in regular mode and all was well again.

Changes I made yesterday: Installed Gambas3, (Basic programming IDE), Remmina, (RDP client), Abiword, (word processor), and Webmin, (web based admin tool). All of these are safe, standard programs.

I'm thinking that msec caused the huge delay. If so, is this normal?

Any help, much appreciated.

UPDATE: See jkerrs post for a link to thread that explains how to fix the problem, I posted there how I did it.

The slow boot symptom has been known to be caused sometimes by the latest dbus update. It usually resolves itself eventually, as it seems to have done in your case. However, if you continue to experience slow boots, you may find this thread helpful: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=8564

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the link.

Actually, the problem recurred when I got home this PM and started the PC, (shut it down at night.)
