[SOLVED]newbie:changed motherboard ..mageia does not boot!!!

Postby santo » Oct 7th, '14, 13:32

Hi all...
I am desperate...first time I am here and from Windoz ,because my mageia does not boot anymore...been using mageia ( since mandrake9.2) but still am newbie as I am not so computer literate...in general I receive help from a newsgroup alt.os.linux.mageia but can not access it of course...
My system ( motherboard died...so I was told so I changed it...now I was installed a

AMD Athlon 5150APU
RadeonR3
1.60 GHz 2.71 GB ram

before my motherboard was a asus m2n68-am-plus and nvidia driver...

I get some error message when I boot but stays too short on screen to get the details
could it be that the change of driver created this situation? Sorry I do not know how to handle these issues...way above my level...
Thanks in advance for helping

Are you seeing the grub menu when trying or are you missing that too?

If you have changed your board you will need to state what hdd to boot from if you have more than 1.

Is the new MB set for secure boot? (look at MB manual)

What MB have you got now?

yes,
I see the GRUB menu...otherwise I wouldn't be able to boot into windoze either...
I managed to read the last sentence of the message I get when trying to boot Mageia4...
it says that I might have to update urpmi database...

Do you have a NV card installed or are you using the AMD APU?

Need the system specs

yes, it is booting to a blank black screen ( I see the 'Mageia splash screen' for a few second...when it start showing the first dot ball it turns black ) ,
then I see these messages and then stays black...

Its still trying to use your NV card thats why then.

Boot to safe mode, when asked put your root password in

then type

Code: Select all
drakx11

Set to your new card/apu

then reboot

in safe mode I could get into GUI as root...anyway I tryed what you did ( what I understood you asked me...)
at the # I typed drakx11 and I get a list of drivers...the selected one is
Radeon HD 5000 to HD 6300 ( radeon/fglrx)
nowhere in the list there is something that goes close to card/apu as you asked.
Anyway I tryed couple of options but same result...

I did what you asked at the shell and also at the Konsole inside GUI...

it is the
CODE:SELECT ALL
that I do not understand...

When you click on the "Select all", the Code is copied to the clipboard, so that you can then paste it wherever it is needed. It's especially useful when you are advised to enter a long or complex command into a terminal.
