Need hand holding for creating live USB in Windows 7

Ok...so Im pretty decent with computers. I find my way around most OS's just fine and can even stumble my way through some of the more complicated stuff, but, for the life of me, I cant figure out how to make a bootable USB with mageia 4. Im trying to make the drive in windows 7. Ive looked at the wiki and it says to use usbdumper.exe. Ive downloaded it but I have no idea how to make it work. It generates a log file but I dont know what any of the stuff in the log means. Ive searched all over the web and everything is either not what I want to do (which is so basic that its sad) or its 2 years old and isnt relevant anymore.

Could someone please walk me through getting a bootable usb created in windows 7?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Mageia

try this one => : http://www.isotousb.com/.
or = > : http://iso2disc.software.informer.com/
Dont forget to check the file for malware + viruses
I havent used them but it should do the job.
download your Live Mageia.iso
You will need up to 1x 8G usb.
Run Iso-to-usb or iso2disc.
Burn the iso to this drive. This will make it bootable. Dont just copy and paste.
Boot to this drive. You will have to alter your bios boot order.
You have the choice of installing to your HDD or running a live system. Choose the latter. This will let you check out Mageia and see that it fits your requirements.

Option #2 from here.
You will need at least 1x 16G drive at least.
The live system has a Desktop icon that will install Mageia onto a partition.
It doesnt care if the partition is Hdd or usb.
Use the installer to create a bootable [ as opposed to live ] Mageia system in the Usb device. Choose to save the drivers as well so that the Mageia system becomes portable.
It also means that any new drivers that are needed are available should the usb device to be connected to any computer other computer, and it also has all your Mageia stuff on it, browser bookmarks, documents, etc.
Be sure to load the bootloader, the configuration page button #3 at the end of the installation, into the usb device - not your hdd,

lets us know how it goes

Had I known that burning the ISO as you normally would only to a usb was what I was supposed to do, I might have been able to get further. The wiki is not very clear.

USB drive made with isotousb does not load. Machine just says "Remove disc or other media and press any key to restart." This is with the "bootable" option checked and unchecked. I tried both.

USB drive made with iso2disc says "NTLDR is missing" when machine tries to boot from usb.

Why recommend untested tools? Why not something from our wiki, as described in https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Dump_Mageia_ ... tive_tools ?

because I missed this line in the wiki : Other LiveUSB Methods (not yet verified) - sorry Doktor :oops:

http://www.linuxliveusb.com/download from the wiki

using this tool has 5 steps , 2 are optional.
see how that goes
