Strange...when I get notifications, I get the normal popup above the notifications icon in the system tray. However,
I get another identical one in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
If so, what is the fix?
Mageia release 4 (Official) for x86_64

Think I've seen that before. Is that with a fresh /home or with old KDE settings? And do you use KDE at all?
Does it also happen with a freshly created user (or xguest)?

KDE and old /home directory with ~/.kde link to .kde4 and its settings...
Where might I find the panel applet settings? Perhaps there is a hidden instance of an older notification_applet causing the extra popup?

Think I found it again, multiple times:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5270http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-84 ... art-0.htmlhttps://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=312748You probably need to redo ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc and/or .kde4/share/config/knotifyrc

Yes. That was the case. There was an extra system tray widget in ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc. It's configuration section was deleted. However other pieces of it remained in the file. I wonder if it didn't get removed properly with the addition and removal of panel widgets?...
Anyway, I deleted all sections related to it, removed the current system tray, sent myslef an email (using 'mail' - kmail nicely informs me of system mail via the mbox account), noticed no popups, then added the system tray back, sent myself an email, and now got the single popup from notifier. All is well. Thanks for the help.
