What's happened to mp4a in VLC? [SOLVED]

Has anyone else noticed that VLC has stopped playing mp4a files. It's been working for ages and suddenly completely refuses to play the audio. Having uninstalled mplayer and reinstalled that from tainted, smplayer will play mp4a encoded files, but VLC doesn't .It's happened on both my Magea 4 64 bit machines.

I don't remember seeing VLC updated, but maybe it has and i missed it?

Has anyone else encountered this?!

Vlc uses its own plugins. Find them named vlc-plugin-* iinm. Im unable to check ATM. The one you want will likely be tainted.

Uninstalled all vlc stuff, enabled only tainited and reinstalled and vlc now works.

Something funky happened, because it has been working for months and just stopped!
