Mail Notification - Mailnotify

Hi, I just installed Mageia, very nice. I come from Linux Mint 11 (which nicely crashes, so I'm looking for a stable distro).

I use gmail & like the checkgmail program which is a notifier.
I cannot see this in the repos, however I downloaded Mailnotify from the repos which looks ideal.

However I cannot get it to work. It does not appear in the applications menu but it does appear on startup/ reboot. But when I try to add my gmail account it closes down/ disapperars.. aaghhh

Has anyone tried this or is there another app? Any help appreciated.

Just to add that I never succeeded to get any such application work with my gmail account. Not in Mandriva (up to 2011RC), not in openSUSE, not in Ubuntu, not in Mageia.
