Hi all.
I did an in-place update from Mageia3 to Mageia4 (both 64 Bit) I rebooted and I get this message:

Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in, type "systemctl -b" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" to try again to boot into default mode. Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue):

I choose to do "systemctl reboot" to reboot, and comes out the same.

So I downloaded the full 64 bit ISO and did a repair install, on reboot I get:

Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in...........

Sigh...

Did a full install:

Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in.....

All this is on a home brew i7 K2600 Gigabyte MB, 16GB RAM, Gigabyte Nvida 560 graphics card with a HP91 19" CRT display.

So tried the DVD install on a Dell Latitude M4600........:

Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in

Maybe it is the computer.
So I do a full install on a clean Dell Latitude M4600, reboot and:

Sigh.....
Welcome to emergency mode!........

Why did you post the same thing in two different threads? Please don't do that, it is disregarded.

Best run journalctl -xb after logging in to see why it fails

Profound apologies, Idont know how that happened, I only did one "Submit" once. (I saved multiple drafts).

Will run "journalctl -xb" when I get to the computer late tonight

You also should try hitting the ESC key to get rid of that blue screen while booting. You will see all the console messages as the system starts up, and most likely you will see the failure right before dropping into rescue mode.

Personally, I don't know why all the distros have taken to hiding those messages; they are useful.

After the 3rd reboot this evening it completed the boot. (I suspect a flaky external usb hub but I will hold judgement for the moment as that dosent explain the Dell Laptop).

I will let you know what happens.
