[SOLVED] Configuring duplex printing as default.

First of all, I have to say my first impressions of Mageia Linux are excellent. I have been a Linux user dating from the Slackware floppy installs before version 1. This is my first use of Mageia.

The only problem I am having is trying to configure my HP Photosmart 7515 printer to always print in duplex. I have used the control center to set all the values to duplex. And in software I check the printer properties to be sure its all set to duplex.

But when I reboot the next day, it seems to fall back to one-side printing - except for Firefox. Firefox prints go duplex. Today I tried printing from Libra writer and made sure properties were set to duplex, but it still printed single-side.

Any idea what is going on?

I've noticed that there is one place where altering the settings seems to rememebr them and others where they are forgotten as presumably temporary. I haven't worked out where that place is yet. You might try setting the defaults in cups itself, see http://localhost:631

In my previous version of Linux (PCLinuxOS) I used the Drake control panel to set duplex printing. That worked across all applications, and once set didn't change. I had other problems with that system however.

Hello again,

My duplex problem seems to be fixed. I am not sure what I did to fix it. I set every printer setup I ran into, and then I went back to the Drake control panel and set duplex again. Then I rebooted. That was yesterday and duplex worked.

Today, duplex printing is still working. So I must have got it right this time.

Thanks for the nice Linux system - good work!

Maybe you also used one of the dedicated HP tools to configure duplex printing?

Otherwise it should suffice to change it via http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/4/en/content/ ... inter.html (system-config-printer) under properties of your configured printer.
My advice would be to simply create a copy of your printer, and configure the copy for normal print, and the original for duplex, depending on what you want as the default/use more often. FWIW I do the same for colour vs. grayscale printing - grayscale by default, and for colours you simply select another printer.

Thanks! That's a good suggestion.

Minor drawback: Order of printers is based on alphabetical sorting of title IIRC. It's not as if the default printer should always be preselected and first in the list :/
But that can be easily fixed by clever renaming of the printers once you got all your copies you need :)
