RESOLVED mageia4 kde debus upgrade quandry

Ever since I upgraded from version 2 to 4 with the kde dvd I get debus and x11-debus listed and unselected in the upgrade notifier. If I select it, it lists a whack of dependencies that would be needed to be installed. The system seems to work fine without this so I am wondering why this is. Should I just continue to ignore this? Can I remove these somehow?
THanks

There is no package that contains the name "debus" in Mageia repositories.

Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia4 ~]$ urpmf -m -f --name debus
[doktor5000@Mageia4 ~]$

Also you cannot upgrade directly from Mageia 2 to Mageia 4. How did you do that exactly?

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active --list-url
cat /etc/product.id

I had mageia 2 installed, downloaded Mageia-4-x86_64-DVD.iso, installed from it using the upgrade option for the partition it found.

Pardon a couple errors I made in my original post, I had also dl'd a linux mint which was specific to kde, so that bit of the description was misleading.
The other error was, of course it was Dbus, not debus; Version: 1.6.18-1.1.mga4 Currently installed version: 1.4.16-5.2.mga2 Group: System/Servers Architecture: x86_64 Size: 841 KB Medium: Core Updates (distrib1)
and dbus-x11 Version: 1.6.18-1.1.mga4 Currently installed version: 1.4.16-5.2.mga2 Group: System/Servers Architecture: x86_64

I see now that it is still using the Mageia 2 versions for these files and their dependencies so I should probably go ahead and upgrade them. If anyone has any thoughts about this I would appreciate hearing them.

I had previously tried to upgrade to mageia 3 but it didn't like my multi-boot setup at all. Mageia 4 was a much more pleasant experience.

Well, the problem may be that you skipped one important step, check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_3_Rel ... m_Mageia_2
Please show the output of
Code: Select all
ls -al /
as root

I think the problem I had with version three had to do with a "prepare to upgrade" reboot option that was not being propagated due to the grub2 bootloader installed by mint which was in effect. I may well have been using a livedvd.

It seemed to me that last year was a bad time to upgrade linux generally due to gnome 2->3 and kde 3->4 issues. I tried several flavors at the time on my new acer box and none of them satisfied. I wound up using win7, mostly, which I'm using at this moment.

You should try to complete the upgrade as explained in https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Rel ... _.28CLI.29

edit doktor5000: I see that you marked the thread "RESOLVED" so this problem doesn't persist anymroe and you did a fresh Mageia 4 install?

Actually I just selected the dbus and dbus-x11 packages that kept popping up unselected in the updater then updated them and their 35 dependencies. It just confused me why they kept popping up as unselected. I think the first time I saw them there was a dependency that couldn't be updated due to stale repository info. I didn't realize it was the Mageia2 versions until you started asking me questions. It would be nice if the updater would better indicate what is set to be upgraded from but that is a completely separate issue outside the scope of this thread.

So, yeah, it was kind of a lame problem of my own doing and I appreciate you taking the time to help me help myself.

My first attempt to get help was in #mageia but nobody responded to my query in the first hour so I eventually came here. It seems to me that IRC is mostly passe but I was never much into it in the first place.
And now I'm babbling.
