I've used Mandriva in the past 2 years and is setting up multimedia for video and audio the same? Do you use easy urpmi? Or how do you set up flash and get multimedia codecs to work with Mageia?

For flash, you could have used the forum search, there are quite some threads about this.
First you need to setup software sources, you don't need easyurpmi, you can do this from Mageia Control Centre.
You just need to make sure, that the non-free sources are activated. Maybe you want to have a look at this:
http://www.mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=mageia1:errata#the_nonfree_media_sources_are_enabled_by_default_when_setting_up_the_mageia_online_media_sourcesand if you are running a 64bit-system you need to take a look at
http://www.mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=mageia1:errata#the_skeleton_adobe_flash_player_package_only_exists_in_the_nonfree_32bit_repositoryRecently there was also the release of Flashplayer 11 Beta:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=776For the "multimedia codecs" you should be a bit more precise, which multimedia codecs do you need?
I for one use VLC player from Tainted repository and it simply works because it brings along it's own codecs.
You can also use it to stream or convert media.

Thanks, I need basic codecs like libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4. I use VLC all the time. I just want videos and music to play. This should be standard on any distro. This is why Mint has been my main distro for the past three years. but I remember Mandriva was easy to set up. So Mageia should be too.

AFAICS both are required by vlc-plugin-common, so as far as you have Non-free and Tainted medias activated
and install vlc, you should get both of these

I get this error when installing vlc.
Sorry, the following package cannot be selected:
- vlc-plugin-common-1.1.11-0.1.mga1.tainted.i586 (due to unsatisfied libfaad.so.2)
how do I correct this?
Also: to get Clementine to work it says its missing a gstreamer plugin. What would that be called?

libfaad.so.2 is included in libfaad2_2 in the tainted/release repo; how are you installing vlc-plugin-common?

It doesn't say which one? try starting clementine from terminal, and post the output here.

All I get from Clementine is: Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in.
What can't the dependencies come with Clementine to begin with? I've installed Clementine on Debian, Mint, and Fedora and after install it just worked. Mageia should be able to do the same.

I ran # Gstreamer -a and it installed all Gstreamer parts. Now Clementine works. I also installed libfaad2_2 but VLC will still not play videos. What else is needed?

I see many vlc plugins, why doesn't the installation install the ones to play videos? Where's libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4? These are the usual files to install. I though Mageia was like Mandriva in ease of use. So far it's not. Keep trying.

Found libdvdread4 in Core 32bit Release-repository.
And so installable through Mageia's Control Centre.

Where it concerns libdvdcss2:
there has been a bug-report for that:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1264#c1Nevertheless, i couldn't find it in the "tainted"-repositories.
Maybe ahmad can give some more information.

libdvdcss2 is in tainted/release; (it's libdvdcss2 for i586 and lib64dvdcss2 for x86_64).
libdvdread4 is in the core/release repo (lib64dvdread4 for x86_64).

After selecting the tainted release repo and installing libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4, VLC is now playing videos.
Thank you
