(done)DVD problems

Postby kd4dii » Jun 22nd, '14, 21:39

Hello
I have downloaded the 4.1 image several times. When I burn the image to a dvd using k3b or brasario, the system says the dvd is blank when I reinsert it and cannot mount the dvd. I have had the best luck with brasario as the dvd will sometimes boot and once got to the screen where I could select install, but could go no further. I have checked the md5 sigs of the images and they are correct and I have also burned the images at the lowest speed the drive can do. I have also tried burning images of other distros and they worked fine, I wanted to check that the drive was working well and it seems to be. I am doing this on a Toshiba laptop with a 2 core processor and 4 gig of ram so the system should be able to handle it. And before anyone askes I am using burn image to disk and not just saving the image as a data file.
Any ideas what is going on?

Bob

Hello,
I sometimes met this kind of problem with re-rewritable DVDs (DVD-RW). Two solutions, use one-time record discs (DVD-R) or dump the image on a USB stick.

Thanks for your reply. Not using rewritables. I just found out that the drive is having problems reading dvds. I just tried to read a dvd that I burned a while back that I knew was good and was unable to read it. As I mentioned above I have burned several distros that worked but they were used in my brothers computer and I had not tried to read them in my machine. I guess it is problem solved.
thanks for your reply.
