Where are the Browser-Updates? e.g. Opera 12.17

Postby okli7 » May 12th, '14, 01:33

Firefox is updated within Mageia 4 from time to time,
but I miss updates of the other browsers.

Most important to me is Opera 12.17.
An update of QupZilla 1.4.4 (if there is any) would also be nice.
1.6.5 is the freshesd stable version. (I just googled it.)
Midori is also a browser of interest to me.
Least important of these 3, but an update couldn't cause any damage too.

I'm not a programmer, so I have to ask here.
And I wonder myself why at least Opera wasn't updated without request (like Firefox).

Ist all just a question of security. All these CVEs. (2014)
I guess it's not enough to update them once year with the next Mageia release.
Something around 4 months should not be to much to ask for.
Browser are the "gates to the internet" (or at least one)
and I don't want to have these "doors" opened to widely (for bad guys).

Opera 12.17 was not released for Linux.

Mac and Linux are not affected, and will not receive a 12.17 update.

Opera have "suspended" support for the linux version and have assigned the staff to other duties.

I would not use Opera. A browser that has not been updated for almost a year (the last linux version was released in July 2013) is likely to be insecure.

Apart from that, feel free to help the QA team to validate the pending update candidates: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6708
They are overwhelmed again by the sheer number of updates, so it simply takes quite some time for the updates to be validated and pushed.

I believe Opera really have shot themselves in the foot.
People i know who used Opera 12 also on windows, now change to firefox or chrome.
While i try the other browsers, i so far always find myself preferring Opera.
For me it is faster to work with and is the best on utilising my large screen using many daughter windows.
