Desktop picture repeats as icon SOLVED

A small problem, but mine own. I converted an old Advent XP laptop to Mageia4 for my neighbour, and put her favourite picture on the desktop and found that the JPG selected for the desktop, and placed in the desktop folder with stripes and the default, also appears as an icon on the desktop - As you can imagine, it looks a bit odd, so I deleted it and found that the desktop reverted to the default blue, so I re-did it and got the desktop back plus the JPG. Any suggestions as to why it happens, and how I can get rid of it?

hello,
do you mean that you have the default wallpaper with the picture as a centred icon?
or
do you mean that you have a black background with the picture as a centred icon?
or
do you mean that you have the picture as your new wallpaper and also the picture as an icon on the wallpaper?
could you take a screen shot [ prtscn key ] and attach?
just reread your post to see if i understand it..
have you put a link [ shortcut in windows parlance ] from the file you placed on the desktop to the wallpaper folder rather than the actual file?

You should save the file in some other folder. The Mageia desktop is a "folder view" which means that the desktop will display icons for any files that are in the Desktop folder.
Alternatively change the desktop from "folder view" layout to "Default Desktop".

Got it. I removed it from the desktop folder, put it in Pictures, then selected it from there, now all is well - Thanks, it was me being thick!
Is there a "Solved" button?
