xemacs segmentation fault

Using Magaia 4, I installed xemacs using the software manager, but when I try to start it I get a segmentation fault. I've looked on the web for a solution, but although this seems to be a common problem, all of the solutions posted assume a lot more knowledge of Linux than I have! Can anybody tell me in simple steps how to fix this?
