Screen Resolution not set properly in VBox

Postby dpeirce » Jul 6th, '11, 02:11

I have Mageia 1 installed in Virtualbox 4.0.10 (Mepis 11 host). I've installed the Guest Additions and everything seems to operate properly except that my screen resolution has been set to "1237x930 (Auto)" per system settings. Xrandr confirms the setting, and refuses to set any higher resolution. /etc/xorg.conf shows a normal-looking entry with no resolution sizes and the vboxvideo driver. Normally Virtualbox sets my screen resolution at somewhere around 1500x1100 depending on how big I make the VM window.

The too-small resolution makes for an ugly and clunky-looking desktop. Anything I can do to get a more normal-looking desktop?

With the VM running, open Machine, is "Auto Resize Guest Display" enabled?

xrandr must be installed, IINM. (You said you have it installed but just to be sure).

OK, that did it. I fiddled with the options for scale mode and auto resize without any result, but then set the screen resize option and that did the trick.

Many thanks.
