mageia won't suspend anymore

Hi ,

Mageia stoped suspending .It's set to suspend in 15 minutes of inactivity. But now it never suspends . It was working fine, now it isn't .

Mageia 4
Geforce GT 640
NVIDIA Driver Version: 331.49

An ideas what may be preventing the system from suspending? . I can start up the system from fresh ,leave nothing running ,i.e - open no programs and still the system will not suspend .

Help please fellow Mageians :-)

Hi, made_in_womb.

Have you updated your system recently?
When I upgraded to the latest kernel (3.12.13-desktop-2.mga4), display brightness control stopped working.
So for now I use an older version (3.12.9-desktop-1.mga4) and it works like a charm.
I hope this helps.

regards, Mika

What desktop environment do you use?
What happens if you run as root
Code: Select all
systemctl suspend

Hi Guys ,

I'm running Gnome desktop enviroment - system up to date .

If I run the
Code: Select all
systemctl suspend
this system suspends and also resumes as it should .

As a side note, why isn't the option for a susupend included when you click the power off icon (on the dektop screen ) .I now just get a power off or restart option .

Does this also happens with another user? Maybe there is a "bug" on your gnome settings, and the time to suspend is not being used. Try configuring this option to another user to see if the problem persists.

Gnome Shell has hidden features that are displayed by holding the ALT key.
The GNOME web site has a helpful outdated cheat sheet explaining these features.

Does it work when you use another desktop environment? Currently the problem seems with gnome or gnome-power-manager or whatever that thing is called.

First time I logged in to KDE desktop . The system gave a message " can not suspend whilst other user is logged in" .After a restart KDE did suspend the dektop .BUT when I log in as another users and then logout again .Then log back in as a different user to KDE desktop it gives the same can't suspend because of another user logged in message (even though I logged out !) .

So KDE does suspend provided no other user has logged into the system, at any time after a restart .

As a note, I did notice that Gnome did give a system suspend message in the tray ,but never actually suspends .

Is there a system log somewhere or a program that can record one so as to give an indication why the system is'nt suspending ?.I've looked at the view and search system logs tool via the control panel , but it's all totally blank !.
