You know, I'm a polyglot and need to use multi-language input; I've been using Ibus, since it' seems to be default option for non-latin input in KDE/Mageia (as per my former post about this: https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1424). However, Ibus installation has an odd: not all required packages are called by default and, eventually, Ibus doesn't work with Gtk apps, namely: Firefox, Thunderbird, and some others... One should install another specific packages:
- Code: Select all
ibus-gtk
ibus-gkt3
ibus-ui-gtk3
plasma-applet-kimpanel-backend-ibus
I've just upgraded my desktop to Mageia 4, but, to my disappointment, there's NO available updated 'plasma-applet-kimpanel-backend-ibus' package (version 4.11) at Mageia 4 repositories... I found such package only up to Mageia 3 ( .../core/updates/plasma-applet-kimpanel-backend-ibus-4.10.5-1.1.mga3.x86_64.rpm )... Weird, don't you think?

Can I use the older version without trouble?... I tried to install it, but rpmdrake informs it depends on another packages: 'plasma-applet-kimpanel'; this last one I got through MCC, but the system called another tow packages, inclusive one 'plasma-applet-kimpanel-backend-scim' ?!... C'mon !!; Already available kimpanel backend packages for no longer supported (?) SCIM , but not for Ibus?!...
Can I still use the older version of kimpanel package? Or, instead, I might to 'downgrade' all other related files?...
Change Input Method is not a fair option yet; my former experience with SCIM was not good; it is much more tricky to install and work properly with all applications... I'm no surprised that project has been discontinued...
I'll be waiting for some advice.
Regards!
