[SOLVED] The syslog daemon rsyslog doesn't work

Postby griffin » Mar 3rd, '14, 01:34

Apparently installing Postfix caused Mageia to solicit the install of rsyslog with the message, "The package syslog-daemon needs to be installed. Do you want to install it?" This appears every time Mageia Control Center is started.

So I answered yes to install the syslog-daemon, but rsyslog doesn't work properly. It pops up a message window asking where to put its log file, but no matter what you enter, it doesn't work, and it just keeps displaying that popup message. I've uninstalled rsyslog because it fails, but how can I get rid of the syslog-daemon message? That's a bit annoying too.

Did you maybe enable the option to show logs in MCC? Options -> show logs?

Unchecking that stopped the message from appearing. I don't think I turned on Display Logs, but something must have. Thanks.

It's disabled by default, and has to be explicitly enabled by the user.
