another question is: i have HUAWEI dongle with TATA GSM sim...while updating package, network disconnects, then urpmi installs from beginning(suppose 50% file is downloaded then a good package manager should resume where it left off)..This never happens!!

So do you want to transfer files to/from your phone, or do you want to connect to internet via your phone?

It would also be helpful if you could at least mention what phone you have, what Mageia version and what desktop environment.
Please do the following: open a terminal, and as root run:
Code: Select all
journalctl -f

then wait a few seconds, and plugin the device, wait again ten seconds or so, until no new output appears. Then post it here using code tags as explained in ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/mandriva/m ... e_tags.ogv

i dont know your phone, but would guess that its manufacturer has only made
software for windows.

unless its a realy popular phone, thats been around for a while, its unlikly
that anyone will have written a device handler for it.

then on top of that someone needs to add it to some of the
phone managment software that is available in the opensource arena.

i used to use something called gnoki for my nokia many years ago.

not realy sure whats available today.

but overall you cant expect linux or mageia to support every single device out there.

more often you choose mageia and then try to buy hardware that works with it.

bit like buying a an apple mac.

check that the product you want to use has mac support.

alternativly be the person that writes software to support it.
