[SOLVED] Quake3 failure / issues

Postby duder » Feb 22nd, '14, 22:15

Now that I have a little bit of spare time I am trying to Install Quake3 and having problems.
I installed ioquake3 then added my files into baseq3, home/dad/.q3a.baseq3.
I then opened a terminal windoe and did ioquake3 and got this below...
Code: Select all
[dad@localhost ~]$ ioquake3
ioq3 1.36 linux-x86_64 Jan  9 2013
Have SSE support
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak6.pk3 (64 files)
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak5.pk3 (7 files)
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak4.pk3 (272 files)
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak3.pk3 (4 files)
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak2.pk3 (148 files)
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak1.pk3 (26 files)
/home/dad/.q3a/baseq3/pak0.pk3 (3539 files)
/usr/share/ioquake3/baseq3

----------------------
4060 files in pk3 files
Point Release files are missing. Please re-install the 1.32 point release. Also check that your ioq3 executable is in the correct place and that every file in the "baseq3" directory is present and readable
[dad@localhost ~]$ ls

I download point release from about 10 different sites and even had a copy from about 7 years ago which I have used before. They all give me a Check Sums error when I try to install them using "sh".

Code: Select all
[dad@localhost Desktop]$ sh linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run
Verifying archive integrity...tail: cannot open ‘+6’ for reading: No such file or directory
Error in check sums 3402128606 3293662273
[dad@localhost Desktop]$

AARRGG! any ideas?
Thanks..

I just installed Wine and tried to see if it would run under Wine and I could not get it to install. It hangs up right at install.
I also noticed I can find the CD/DVD drive from the terminal window, usually /media/cdrom/ whatever the cd is.

ioquake3 contains a template file for autodownloader to install the update IIRC, you can run it like this:
Code: Select all
/usr/share/autodl/AutoDL.py /usr/share/ioquake3/ioquake3-update.autodlrc
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

I copied and pasted the line as you have and ran it. It opened a smal window and downloaded something.
I tried ioquake3 again and its still compaining about installing point release.
Every point release I have tried comes up with check sums error.

I just found it did download a copy of point release into the .q3a folder.
here is what got when I ran point elease...

Code: Select all
baseq3/  linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
[root@localhost .q3a]# sh linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Quake III Arena Point Release 1.32b.................................................................................................................................................
This installation doesn't support glibc-2.1 on Linux / x86_64
(tried to run setup)
Please contact Id software technical support at bugs@idsoftware.com, or ttimo@idsoftware.com
The setup program seems to have failed on x86_64/glibc-2.1

[root@localhost .q3a]#

I was able to get Winquake to run under Wine.
I tried Quake3 and it changed my resolution which took me a while to figure out how to set it back.

I spent quite a bit of time digging around and trying different things.
I finally got it to work, no sound, but I can work on that later.
To get past the glibc error I did this as root.... linux32 sh linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
Then an installer window opens.
The next thing I had to change was the path to point release/quake3
for me it is /home/dad/.q3a
The rest of the questions were defaults.
Then typed ioquake3 to start the game.

Strange the sound is working now for no reason, but thats fine with me!

Another little tid bit of info..to install Team Arena
Copy the pak0.pk3 from the TA missionpack directory and put it into the installed Quake3 missionpack directory.
Then start Quake3 and select Team Arena from the menu and it will launch.
