So your problem is booting mageia DVD on this laptop, right? Using an USB driver. Did you try create a Live USB from mageia ISO file?
Maybe this way the booting process runs well.

hi
I have used Isodumper [ thanks doktor5000 ] to write many a bootable 4G usb stick.
It will erase completely anything on the drive so use a spare, then set bios to 1st boot to usb hdd.
you could try this method.
ps. It also saves on homemade coasters

looks like you might have to try the live version or even use the MGA upgrade applet route or upgrade via urpmi to get to M4 on this laptop.
sorry i couldn't be of more assistance.
at the end of the day you may have to submit a bug report - check first to see if it hasn't already been logged
