After rebooting, I am no longer able to load the kernal. When I first did a reboot, grub began loading and went into the graphic screen. It appeared to try to load more than one kernal at startup (4 actually!), then crashed. Tried to boot again and grub loads the "emergency" script.
Then tried a fresh install with DVD (selected Gnome desktop). Install showed no errors. On first boot, "emergency" screen again. After looking at the bug dump, it looks as though there is a problem with IO to (AMD dual core x64) processor, but there could be more problems, i'm sure.
Just tried to use the install DVD to update, and included url to mirrors for package management and updates etc. Still unable to boot this kernal...
I am using Mint 16, that sits on another physical drive, and there are no problems.

After looking at which bug dump?

Also, it seems you mix things up. You say that you tried a fresh install with DVD, and got the error on first boot.
Then you mention you tried the DVD to complete the upgrade. How does that fit together?

Also, do you have any other entries in the Mageia boot menu? Did you try those?

As mentioned in first post, The first "install" was an upgrade from M. 3 to M. 4. After this upgrade, I could not get drakrpm, apper, nor "Control Center to work. Then, I tried a fresh install (reformatted the drive at install) and the "Emergency" screen came up on first boot. Then, I did a "upgrade", using the same install DVD. This time I choose the Gnome desktop (prev- kde) with the url update set to a US mirror. Same problem. When I opened the script that ran during the boot process, I found the memory referances.
The Grub2 that Mageia created resides on another drive, and lists: Mageia, "Advanced Options for Mageia", Mint 16, "Advanced...", and Win 7. When choosing "Advanced Options..." I get the "Emergency" dialog, only.
Note: ran sucessful checksum on this ISO after burning.

So you manually selected grub2? As grub is still the default ...

Yes, I manually selected to use Grub2. In the past I have had issues with Grub and my win bootloader, Grub2 seems to be my failsafe for this issue. Could Grub2 be the problem with loading this kernal properly?

I've also noticed that Mageia created 5 partitions during the install (2 extended) on a rather small (160 GB) drive. Can't understand why the installer would have to make all those partitions... :?:

It currently is part of the problem, as you seem unable to boot any of the Mageia entries, whereas in the first post you were still able to boot, correct?

Well, what did you choose for partitioning?

Yes, I was able to load Mageia 4, after the first upgrade from Mageia 3. Although, I was using Grub2 at that time also. I used Grub2 with Mageia 3 for quite some time and never had a problem with it.
For partitioning (during "fresh" install) I selected the second option: "erase and use entire drive", I then selected the drive that previously had my bootloader (ie: grub2) on it, as the place to setup the new grub2.

Please Note: All of the choices that I opted to use during these upgrades and installs, were options that were available to use, within the parameters of an "automatted" install or upgrade. I did not choose any "custom" or otherwise, esoteric parameters, other than using Grub2 and putting it on another physical drive. I just wiped, and installed Ubuntu 13.04 on this same drive and system, using the same, basic setup, and it is working fine, I'm using it now. I do appreciate all of the great effort and creative insight that goes into this project, and will continue to use Mageia. But, at this stage, I will go back to Mageia3 (so that I can get back to work!) (Vielen Dank für Ihre Zeit und Hilfe!)
