I'm running Mageia 4 KDE
I go to the screensaver settings and it looks like its set up to turn on after ten minutes but nothing happens. How do you set up the screensaver?

I searched here in the forum and got no instructions. what search engine are you talking about? your wiki?

What did you search for at
search.php or at the top right in the header? Searching for "screensaver kde" throws up 37 matches.
What do you mean by "your wiki"?

The Mageia wiki. I searched for: How to set up screensaver. which was a poor choice. I will search again. Thanks

None of these threads explain how to turn on the screensaver. I go into the settings and it looks like it should turn in in ten minutes, but it does nothing. I've used KDE for many years so I've gone to these settings before. Maybe there is a bug in KDE? Nobody seems to know. I might as well forget about the screensavers since nobody can explain how to get it to work. In past, the screensavers in Mandriva and Mageia worked by default, now they don't. What happened?

Well, have a look at the documentation:
http://userbase.kde.org/System_Settings ... nd_MonitorI didn't have it enabled (I prefer screen turning off, as screen saver isn't good for digital displays at all, but anyways)
enabled automatic start after 1 minute, selected screensaver instead simple locker, selected Slideshow in th bottom window (which is the Mandriva/Mageia default) and set it to 60 seconds and waited. Then screensaver kicked in.
You didn't even mention which screensaver you have selected (as some of them require hardware acceleration ...)

Yes the Slideshow is what it is set to. I've done this before and for some reason its not working, maybe there is a difference in KDE 4.11.4
Thanks for your help.

What do you see in terminal when you run
- Code: Select all
/usr/bin/kslideshow.kss --demo
Does the screensaver start?

yes, a window opens with the slideshow. but how do I get it to turn on? the controls looks like its on but its not. its in screen locker settings, its not listed as screensaver.

I just turned off screen energy savings in power management, maybe that is why it doesn't turn on.

Turning off the energy savings is what was causing the screensaver not to come on.
Problem solved
Thanks

Yes, it is, it's called slideshow and it's the default screensaver.

Well, if screen blanks out after 5 minutes, you will probably never see your screensaver which kicks in after 10 minutes ...
