[SOLVED] Hidden files in dolphin

Postby musix » Jan 28th, '14, 20:17

I use Mageia 3 KDE, 32 bit, after 2 previous distros. Never had this kind of problem with any Linux before, regardless which distribution it was (mostly KDE versions).
After inserting dvd in drive, any containing hidden file or folder can be seen, if "show hidden files" is checked in dolphin. After removing and insering the same or other disc that contains hidden files or folders, nothing can be seen, although the option in dolphin is still active and refers to current folder. I tried all setting in view properties, but nothing changed. It works properly only after rebooting, and only with first disc inserted.

having just switched to mga 3 after a long hold out on mga2 i can say ive seen some of the symptoms
you are describing.
not the one with hidden files but the one with DVD/cd rom handling.
if you eject the drive using the mechanical eject , it now appears to not signal this to
the kernel and therefore onto dolphin.
it leaves the mount in /home/username/media, and does not update it with any contents when the new media is inserted.
ive found the best workaround is always to right click on the cdrom icon in dolphin
and eject from there.
then the problem you describe that needs reboots does not occur.

sometimes, you have to press F5 to refresh the content in dolphin also

ive just backed up a couple of hundred dvd's to harddisk, so ive tested this problem to destruction
and can say that it does behave different now.

this is definitely a change in behaviour between mga2 and 3 and is probably related to the change in the media mount point

Thanks for reply.
Tried LXDE version of Mandriva 3 yesterday, the problem is the same with its file menager, not only with dolphin. I tried what you did, and it seems to work.
