[SOLVED]Hangs during boot after updating all packages

I have Mageia 3, I updated all of my packages Monday and now the system gets to "reached target graphical interface" and hangs during boot. I found somebody had a similar problem, and somebody suggested:

You can add xdriver=vesa kernel option at the grub stage of booting and it should bring you to a working desktop.

But I don't know how to do that.

Please help! I need to have my Linux system working ASAP for a class.

FWIW my video card in ATI Radeon 7660G.

In Grub bootmenu press F3 then select -> Default and then append xdriver=vesa in the input line that appears.

Okay, I did that, and it still hung at "reached target graphical interface."

Thanks doktor5000, the XFdrake from safe mode helped me restore my desktop. But now my screen is dim. I'll make a new thread for that though.
