(SOLVED) Re: USB Installation Issue: No CDROM Found

Afternoon All,

I am looking to install Mageia 3 on my netbook. The netbook does not have an optical drive, so I am attempting a USB install.

I downloaded the Mageia 3 DVD 32bit ISO.
I have dumped the file onto a USB drive with Rufus.
Computer boots fine.
I get a message that no CDROM has been found, and I am prompted to choose a driver for the Media.

I have tried the USB-Common and the USB-Storage as well as USBCORE. In each case, I am given a prompt to give parameters to the kernel. I don't know what to enter here, so I am leaving this blank. I then get a message: No CDROM Device Found.

So, I appear to be stuck. Can anyone help me get past this point?

My Netbook is a Dell Mini 1010.

Cheers,
Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt.

The ISO is hybrid and when properly installed to a USB drive the drive will masquerade itself as an optical drive.
It would appear that the version of Rufus you're using isn't doing that job properly.

Check the WIKI Here for other methods of installing the ISO to a USB drive.

In case the installer gets lost, as a workaround there's the possibily to cancel choosing the driver, and in the next menu simply choose harddisk as installation media (no path/device selection needed IIRC) and the installer should continue just fine. (As sometimes, depending which program you use and what BIOS the computer may recognise this as an usb mass storage device)
