[SOLVED] Rhythmbox not playing m4a files

Postby niemand » Jan 1st, '14, 06:53

When I try to play an m4a file, Rhythmbox displays a message requiring the following plugin:
MPEG-4 AAC decoder

Where do I find this? Is it valid?

I've verified that gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad is installed.

Running Gnome on Mageia 3.

Thanks.

Well, I'm not using rhythmbox but seems that it requires the newer gstreamer1.0 plugins, on initial install it wants to install gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly from tainted here. But anyways, you probably miss the plugin to decode aac sound, gstreamer1.0-faad or gstreamer0.10-faad

Can you please show the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep faad
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

It returns nothing:
Code: Select all
$ rpm -qa | grep faad
$

I went to Control Center and installed gstreamer0.10-faad (gstreamer1.0 is not provided). Now that faad has been installed:
Code: Select all
$ rpm -qa | grep faad
gstreamer0.10-faad-0.10.23-11.mga3.tainted
lib64faad2-2.7-6.mga3.tainted

But Rhythmbox continues to give me the same error message.

Well, you probably need to check your repos, gstreamer1.0-faad is there:
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia3 ~]$ urpmf -f --name -m gstreamer | grep faad
gstreamer0.10-faad-0.10.23-11.mga3.tainted.x86_64:Tainted Release
gstreamer1.0-faad-1.0.5-3.mga3.tainted.x86_64:Tainted Release
gstreamer0.10-faad-0.10.23-11.mga3.tainted.i586:Tainted 32bit Release
gstreamer1.0-faad-1.0.5-3.mga3.tainted.i586:Tainted 32bit Release

Apart from that, you could take a look at https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24381

And you could play one of those m4a files via mplayer and post the output here.
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!

Found them. I installed gstreamer1.0 faad and plugins-ugly and Rhythmbox is now able to play m4a files.

Thanks.
