BOINC issue with Livecd

Postby guyjin » Jan 1st, '14, 01:27

So I'm shopping around for my new OS, and am currently running the Mageia 3 liveCD. I've been installing software to see how that process goes, and so far it's been problem free, with one exception.

I can't seem to get BOINC to work. it says it is unable to connect to the core client; http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/BOINC_Help says that that means there is a firewall involved; it's not my Router or anything because I have other devices running BOINC with no such issue, and the OS this computer was previously running also lacked this issue.

So where is this firewall, and how do I give BOINC a pass? or is there some issue with the LiveCD that prevents BOINC from running?

Firewall configuration can be found in MCC: http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/3/en/content/ ... ewall.html
You may want to disable that for testing purposes.

Well, It's a liveCD, and I had to shut down my computer since then. I got the Firewall out of the way, but now I can't seem to run BOINC. I've downloaded it from the repos, just like before, but typing "boinc" from Run Command in the kickoff menu doesn't do anything anymore.

Hello,
I have been using on old version of BOINC for ages. It does not need any thing to be done with the firewall.
I could not get the BOINC in the repos to work. try the one from the site:
