[SOLVED] How do I restore deleted fonts?

I deleted some fonts that I thought I'd never use. Some were wingdings and others were foreign languages and things I thought I'd never have any use for. Long story shortened, how do I add them back? Thanks.

Where and how did you delete them? Did you delete the actual files?

Shouldn't this be moved to basic support? :?

System Settings>Font Management. Highlight and press delete button (red x).

They're not in trash.

And from which category? Personal or system/all fonts? Did you enter your root password when you were asked if you're really sure about deletion?

If you really clicked delete, the file will be deleted, and that cannot be restored. I've just tried with one system font.
You can only tell us the name of the font and then we can show you which package to reinstall, if the font
came from a Mageia package.

I think my best course of action now is to reinstall the OS. I've really messed something up. Thanks very much for the help and advice.

Are there other much more serious problems you've not told us about? Reinstalling the OS is a bit overkill to fix this problem!

In a terminal window, the following commands should get back all the fonts that are installed by default in Mageia for an English language install:
Code: Select all
su
urpmi --replacepkgs abattis-cantarell-fonts
urpmi --replacepkgs fonts-ttf-decoratives
urpmi --replacepkgs fonts-ttf-dejavu
urpmi --replacepkgs fonts-ttf-freefont
urpmi --replacepkgs fonts-ttf-liberation
urpmi --replacepkgs fonts-ttf-west_european
urpmi --replacepkgs ghostscript-fonts
urpmi --replacepkgs urw-fonts

(the su command will ask you to enter the root password).

If you want to see what other font packages are available, use the command:
Code: Select all
urpmq --fuzzy fonts

wingdings is one of the Microsoft core fonts. Did you install these yourself?

I don't know what I did, but the system seems to have slowed some and FF in particular has slowed to dial-up speeds. I had done a lot of things just before this happened. Installing PCLinuxOS on partion #1...that wouldn't start X...was one of the things that had me wondering, then the font deletion and a few tweeks to system settings.

Since then I installed Mageia 3 to partion #1 and am working on getting the right look and feel and get FF set up (which is version 17 atm). It's a lot of work for sure but Mageia is certainly worth it. I'll add the fonts and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

At the moment, the problem has gone away. Will advise if it returns.

I'm wondering if it wasn't a torrent running in the background. I'm sort of new to that stuff.
