[SOLVED] Webmin and samba module

Postby camorri » Jun 24th, '11, 21:03

I installed Webmin, and noticed Samba module was not installed. I went into Webmin configuration, add modules, and added Samba module and Swat module. Neither show up in Webmin after they appeared to install. I installed them from http://www.webmin.com. I restarted Webmin service, still they don't show up. I booted the system, and still no samba or swat modules.

I clicked on 'Refresh Modules' before and after installing. The count of installed and un-installed modules does not change. Any thoughts on what is, or is not happening? Possible fixes?

The samba module in webmin works for me "out of the box". The samba webmin module is included in the webmin package.

Could it be you do not have the samba-server and samba-swat packages installed?

I installed samba server and swat. I have solved the problem. My problem was I did not understand how to add a module in Webmin. The web site www.webmin.com does not offer much guidance.

Basically, I downloaded the module from that site. It is a gz file, used ark to extract the .wbm file, and then used 'From a local file' option to install the file.
The server still did not show up under the 'servers'. I had to look in 'Un-used-modules' section, and there it was. Next it wouldn't do anything, other than whine about configuration. I went into configuration, and all the items to configure including swat had the wrong paths set. I edited the paths, and the module started to work. It took a cold boot after that to have Samba show up under Servers, as it had on other distros. All is well, now.

I suspect this is how I will have to configure the ssh module as well. Just haven't got that far, yet.

I've ran into the same problem and Samba module wouldn't show in my webmin list of servers. It wouldn't show samba modules, in my case, and it wouldn't install webmin-samba modules manually. Removed and re-installed the webmin app but had no luck until I've read the forum http://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/suppo ... ment-10983 with apossible solution that I, later, found to work for me! :D
This goes to the newbies, like me, out there:

- I'm running SL-Linux 6.3 2.6.32-279.14.1.el6.x86_64 with Samba version 3.5.10-125.el Webmin 1.610
- Going to Webmin modules, click Webmin > Webmin Configuration and there should be an icon Upgrade Webmin

webmin upgrade even if latest version installed check box must be checked

- Don't forget to check "Upgrade even if new version is the same or older?" box to make sure your webmin will upgrade no matter what version you have, even if it is the latest one.
- Logout and log back in with root account
- You're done! :D

Thanks to Eric on http://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/suppo ... ment-10983 , nicely done on sharing your expertise!!!
