[SOLVED] Cannot get out of safe mode

Postby daryl » Nov 12th, '13, 23:08

Ran updates with no problem, but after restrarting I default to safe mode....which I'm using currently. Since I'm a neophyte I'm wondering how to get back into the Mageia 3 regular mode. What exactly is the process. I believe the command is urpme...but don't know how to use it to ...since I'm used to Windows versions ? Thanks.

Hi,
I am also new to Mageia and have had my own problem with 'Safe Mode'. You want to get out of it an back to Mageia 3 regular mode. Have you treid using logout if not then this may be a possible solution. Proceed with caution. Clciked the Applications Launcher and click on the red leave button from there select logout. When your start up scrren appears on the lower left side ther should be two icons. Click the first one, it may appear to have lines runnigng down it, in my Log in Screen there is a list of options as to how to login. Your list will most likely be different from mine but mine the options there coudl be one like mine which says 'Custom.' Take a deep breath an click it? Then sign in as you nornmally do. It should, and again I can not say for certain, log you into Mageia 3 ' regular mode'
The second icon if clicked also had options which you may want to check out?

Thanks for the reply, however there is only one button in existence on mine to log out and to get back in. No other options appear except the ones I pull up using the F1 OR F2 or F3 buttons. I suspect I have to use urpme from the termnal to remove the new programs that were installed and am going to see if there are any notices in the verbose morde at startup.

F1, F2 and F3 used to pull up menus? Sounds like the bootloader ...
Are you talking about a screen similar to this? http://doc.mageia.org/installer/3/en/co ... aller.html

[solved] My apologies. I tried everything and was at my wits end. I accomplished nothing from Safe Mode. What I did was a reinstall with the insall disk ie not the live disk.....with a format of the swap file space only. The computer came back entirely fixed with no problems. The control center, Thunderbird....eveything works perfectly.
I wish windows was half as easy since except for xp and an exception in Vista there is no way to reinstall and keep your data. I also noted that there much less disk thrashing and all of my web pages come up faster. My Windows 7 disk is on the same computer, but a different diak.
Previously I tried all of the popular versions of Linux with no success seeing my Belkin N300 USB network card adapter. Mageia had no problem. I currently have a TP LINK Wireless N PCI adapter which it is currently using with no fiddling around. So all is good. Thanks everyone. SOLVED
