Kstreamripper problem

Postby rodgoslin » Nov 2nd, '13, 02:45

Can anyone help with this. If I try streaming to file with kstreamripper from any of the internet radio statiions. I get "Connection refused" on hitting the 'record' button. However if I use Streamripper, for which kstreamripper is merely the GUI, and using the same URL, it works perfectly every time.

If you start kstreamripper from a terminal, do you get any more output when that happens?

I have tried opening kstreamripper from the command line. All that happens is that the GUI opens and the command line returns to my user prompt. I've enen looked for a debug option. However, in the way eternal, of changing anything, to see what happens, I found that when entering a new stream, if I click on "user agent setting", and change the default value from kstreamripper to streamripper, it works. Why a default value that does not function is there, I've no idea. If I was asked, off-the -cuff, to define "user agent", I should, without hesitation, say, "Keyboard, mouse and monitor". since I, as a user, use these agencies to communicate with the machine. In this sense the naming of the function is not immediately logical. The problem is doubly odd, since some time ago, I used Kstreamripper, without any problems, over an extended period. Why this has changed, I've no idea. I shall have to see if there's an initiating file, where I can change the default values to something that does work.

Probably the systemwide default settings have or need to be changed. Please report that as a bug, after searching if it hasn't been reported yet already: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

It's all a bit academic, now. One of the problems with streamripper and kstreamripper is the need to obtain the URL of the stream. There seems little opportunity in Linux to obtain such information (It's simple in Winamp). I installed Qmmp as a near alternative to Winamp. This, however seems to have totally broken Ksreamripper. The application is still there, but opening it from the icon results in the bouncing cursor for about a minute before it vanishes. Trying to invoke it from the command line, and nothing happens, no response, no error messages, I simply get the user prompt. Deleting Qmmp does not help. An enormous number of dependencies were installed with Qmmpo, and on uninstall, only Qmmp was removed. More cruft to fill the OS partition. I've uninstalled kstreamripper and re-installed it to no avail. Just for a moment to return to the orphans problem. On uninstalling kstreamripper, I noticed that streamripper then appeared on the list of orphans. I'm at a loss how streamripper can be classed as an orphan. It is a stand-alone application, in its own right and still works. Kstreamripper was merely a more convenient way of running streamripper. So having achieved a solution to the problem, I can no longer use the application. There is no way that I can go back and remove all the dependencies loaded with Qmmp, since I've now no way of determining what they were and in what order they must be removed. Since they're loaded, installing Qmmp will no longer refer to them. I can definitely feel a return to Mageia 2 coming on.
