[SOLVED] Where is the web browser?

Postby fishman » Oct 25th, '13, 23:38

I am new to Mageia and I installed it very easily. I went to look for the web browser and I cannot locate it. So, my question after searching all of these posts is, "Where is the web browser?" I tried to install chromium but it wants me to load core-? medium. I am new to all of this and am stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanking yall in advance.

If you installed from the dual-arch CD, then you'll find midori in the menu in the Internet category. If you installed using any other iso, then Firefox should be available in the menu and/or in the panel.

A number of other browsers can be installed using the Software Manager:

For a web browser Firefox should be installed on your system.

For the missing core media that would be your installation media, DVD, CD or USB, what ever you used.
You can disable it in MCC > Software Management > Configure media sources for install and update, if you have fast internet.

The web browser installed is Firefox. You can get rid of that message by opening the Mageia Control Center then clicking "Configure media sources for installation and update". After the window loads uncheck the top two CDROM options. Now you should be able to install chrome through "Install and remove software" utility.

Sorry I need to clarify something here. I am running it in a VB to test it first before actually using it for everyday stuff. My menu look nothing like that image above. Is it maybe that running in VB is the problem? I want to thank yall for your much needed help. I just am a newbie and want to get away from Windows lol. :D

Ok I figured out my problem and it has been resolved. My passord both root and user were not compatible to the OS thus causing this problem of not installing the full version. I now have the full version installed my badd. Thank yall for your help. Yall have been wonderful. :D Here is the screenshot of the OS in VM:

By the way, it runs excellent in VM so far. I am running the KDE desktop for now until I get more familiar with Mageia. I like what I see so far. Thanks again for all of yall's help. I will be doing a Distro review on youtube from the new user's point of view. I have a site too. http://fishmanloveslinux.weebly.com
