Extreme slowless with gnumeric 1.12.0

Am running mageia 3, kde 4.10.5, gnumeric 1.12.0 and am experiencing extreme slowness in gnumeic. There is a noticeable lag when tabbing from one cell to the next. If I try to do a Save As to save in some other format so that I can open with LibreOffice Calc it hangs. It is practically not usable the way it is. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck.

In fact, when gnumeric is up it makes everything else on the system slower. Somehow it is sucking up resources. (Have 8 gig of ram, 4 gig free.)

Any ideas?
