KDE freezes

Hi, I have a new install of Mageia 3 and every now and then the desktop (KDE) freezes. This seems to be happening more and more, and is becoming really annoying, especially since I can't seem to recover apart from SSH'ing in to the box from my laptop and issuing a shutdown command.
Would love to get this issue resolved as apart from that this version of Mageia seems pretty solid.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

A little more information. I do have an old Radeon graphics card. I don't remember the model off the top of my head. However, I didn't have any issues with Mageia V1 and V2 at all.

Probably your situation is very different but my desktop was sometimes almost unresponsive. I needed to disable Strigi indexer as it's log suddenly consumed enormous 18GB and rsnaphot backup had a lot to do to copy it. Desktop effects can also be involved. If that is annoying too, there is a
nice wiki page about that.

check /home/user/.xsession.error.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/kdm.log
perhaps they can tell you the reason of the problem.
as filip says it could be nepomuk/strigi. I always disable those anyways, in particular since I use SSD disks. Apropos, disk errors could cause such issues as you describe as well. Worth looking into dmesg or messages log and checking disk with hdparm tools and disk checking tools. In particular for SSD, a troublesome section can cause annoyances. If you have SSD disk, make sure trim is enabled!
