[SOLVED] Live DVD doesn't boot on HP Pavilion g7 laptop

I got a new laptop recently, with an AMD A4 M APU and EFI. Ubuntu works on it, mostly, though I have some weird video driver issues. I was a huge Mandrake fan back in my high school days so I thought it would be fun to try out Mageia.

Sadly, it doesn't even boot. I tried normal boot and safe boot on the 64 bit live dvd, and all I get is a black screen. What are the first troubleshooting steps I should take?

I figured out what it was. I was using unetbootin. Once I realized that wasn't supported I made my USB stick with DD and it worked fine with no need to enter special GRUB arguments.
