copying files to cd/dvd (Solved)

My wife has a number of photos that she has loaded onto the harddrive. Now she would also like to copy them from the harddrive to a blank cd. We are stumped. We are supposing that the cd must be formated. but how do you do that. How do you format at blank cd? We've looked in dolphin filemanger, (no luck) and K3b, (Burn, rip, project, were all promising words), But then we get directions to insert a blank cd. "It's in there already, and it gave us 4 options to select from, and you were one of them, Kb3". Clearly I'm lacking in the basics here. So after all that, could you tell me how to copy files from my hard drive to a blank CD/DVD disk.
Thank you
Nic

k3b should see a blank CD/DVD and no you do not format it.
An /etc/fstab entry for the drive could be the problem so please post the contents of /etc/fstab.

Is this what you are asking for?
# Entry for /dev/sda1 :
UUID=db5b0f9d-44cf-4167-be76-1f9fb7264334 / ext4 acl,relatime 1 1
# Entry for /dev/sda6 :
UUID=32a9dc61-9a21-44b6-b27e-eb2a8a464ac0 /home ext4 acl,relatime 1 2
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sda5 :
UUID=1b837f80-ee33-452e-94cc-30b35a7f9761 swap swap defaults 0 0

clearly nothing in there
your a KDE user right?
so openup K3b
In the welcome to k3b cd and dvd creator select new data project
now inset your DVD or CD
K3b will detect the media size and adjust the available at the bottom
now open the folder with dolphin that has your pic in it and select them all
use a combination of click on first then press shift key and select last, they should now all be selected.
without letting go of the shift key select the group with the mouse and drag and drop them into k3b.
thats the window pane at the bottom right of k3b
try to select enough in one go that will fit on the cd or dvd
dolphin shows the amount total at the bottom.
so you want upto 4.1 gig for a dvd and upto 700 meg for a CD
now hit Burn
thats it its dead easy.
by the way if you were to format a dvd or cd that is write once you would effectivly fill it with random data and burn it to a coaster.
you dont format DVD's you burn the data into it as a one shot hit, idealy.
there is multi session but ignore that there so cheap just burn as much as you can in one go.
once its burned thats it theres no re-use its permanant.
there are eraseable rewritable dvd's and CD's but frankly there not worth it, for the cost, verses the burn once disks

Peter, Super, thanks for the help. Pics are on the CD.
Nic
PS Ken, yes, K3b requested a blank or appendable medium. That was probably what I missed. the disk I was using was neither blank or appendable. Once a blank one was entered and I followed Pete's directions everything went smoothly.
Thanks.

As your an honest fellow and have never lied to me I took your word for it when you said you were using a blank CD.
Would you be so kind as to mark the thread as solved by editing the title of your first and prefixing it with [SOLVED]?
