I have a dual monitor setup, with VGA-0 on the left and DV1-1-0 to the right. I am seated in front of DVI-1-0. When I boot text appears on DVI as I want.

On the screen in System Settings / Display and Monitor I have tried several combinations with no luck. At the moment I show DVI-1-0 as Position Absolute 1920 0 and VGA-0 as Position Left of DVI-1-0. I have also tried setting DVI-1-0 to position Absolute at 0 0. I set Primary output as DVI-1-0 and do the Apply and Save as Default. However these settings don't stick over a reboot. When I try setting the absolute values the screen comes back up in a clone mode.

I am indeed getting tired of having to redo these settings every time I reboot. Any ideas?

I misspoke above when I said " have also tried setting DVI-1-0 to position Absolute at 0 0." That was supposed to be VGA-0 that I have set to 0 0.

Which desktop are you using?

I don't know what you mean by "desktop." I am trying to use both screens, seated in front of the one to the right. I am using KDE and everything is default. This was only reinstalled yesterday. I've been fighting this for three days. It should have taken three minutes. I'm starting to think that the only solution is a different distribution.

After trying every combination I could find both under System Settings, Display and Monitor and nvidia-settings both xnimerama and TwinView I found one that would work. Under Selection in nvidia-settings, instead of indicating two screens and showing either absolute positioning or relative positioning, I just selected one screen, X Screen 0 with NO positioning. After rebooting both screens showed up and operated as one big screen. Also, the Detect Displays button never did work when trying to set up the individual screens. Oddly, when going back into nvidia-settings it again shows two screens defaulting the selection to AOC 2260W (CRT-0) instead of the option that worked, X screen 0.
