For whatever reason, when I click on the system-monitor extension, I get a dialog box.
But the preferences dialog will not open. I updated my system today, so whatever
is causing it was not addressed.

You still didn't answer which media you used to install Mageia.

Also, can you please run gnome-system-monitor in a terminal, click on settings, and post the terminal output here?
BTW, system-monitor works fine here.
